Meeting the Mystics: Christian Meditation as a Journey to the Heart
10:00 A.M. - 11:30 A.M., Parish House
The important aim in Christian meditation is to allow God's mysterious and silent presence within us to become more and more not only a reality but The Reality which gives meaning, shape and purpose to everything we do, everything we are.
—John Main, 1926 - 1982
4:30 P.M. - 6:00 P.M., Parish House
We are a lay mediation group offering a Zen style meditation environment in an informal setting. We welcome both seasoned practitioners and beginners looking for a group environment to further their practice.
We meet on most Thursday afternoons between 4:30 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. We sit for three 25-minute periods.
Zen meditation is non-denominational and brings focus on the present moment. Therein we experience the beauty of God's creation.
Contact Frank Schaffner at 928-556-1464 if you wish to attend. Newcomers please arrive about 20 minutes early for some brief orientation.
Gentle Hatha Yoga Community Class
8:30 a.m. - 10:00 A.M., Fellowship Hall
Please join us Saturday mornings to practice Gentle Hatha Yoga.
The practice of Hatha Yoga goes much deeper than movement; it is a pathway to practicing loving kindness - beginning with self. Our 1.5 hour practice incorporates centering, breath work, gentle movement, stretching, core strengthening, and finally - integration of all experiences, in rest.
4:00 p.m. - 5:30 p.m. In the Parish House
Introduced to us at SOH by then member David Bishop several years ago, this weekly meditation satsang (fellowship) follows the method of Passage Meditation developed by Sri Eknath Easwaran, founder of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation (BMCM) in Tomales, California, and meditation teacher for over 40 years. In each weekly satsang, we read from books written by Sri Easwaran, watch a 15-minute video of one of his lectures, and then meditate on memorized inspirational passages from the world’s great wisdom traditions, providing positive, practical, uplifting guidance for living in our modern world.
