At the Annual Meeting of the Church Congregation following services on February 2, Mary Curtis was elected to a second two-year term as Moderator along with four new members of the Church Council. Treasurer Larry Wilson presented a balanced budget for 2020 that called for $282,275 in income and expenses for the coming year.

Treasurer Wilson reported that the Church had a very successful financial year, which concluded with a surplus. The only significant change from previous budgets was the inclusion of a $6,500 expense item for a part-time Faith Formation/Education minister to develop a youth program for the Church.

On the income side, member pledges for 2020 are projected to generate $179,675, an increase of $10,868 over 2019, or 63% of the year’s total revenue. Other income sources include $37,000 from facility use fees for the Hills Preschool and other Church facilities; $5,000 distribution from the Church’s endowment fund; and a $19,500 unexpended carryover from the 2019 budget.

Almost two-thirds of the 2020 expenditures - $182,975 - go for staff compensation, benefits and taxes. Some $73,000 will be needed for the maintenance of buildings and grounds, office and administrative expenses, and insurance. Funding for the various committee functions (i.e., worship, music, Christian education, conferences, etc.) amounts to $6,300, Another $20,000 will go for planned outreach contributions (including Family Promise) and special offering donations.

The Endowment Fund had a balance of $125,583 at the end of 2019, a 22.4% gain for the year. The total of consolidated and endowment funds amounted to $325,915 as of December 31, 2019.

Newly-elected members of the Council are Liz Mullen, vice-moderator; Karyn Mercado, worship and music; Annemarie Killourhy, diaconate; and Dick Richardson, member-at-large. Alice Rice, Carol Shaw and Sue Spahle were the outgoing Council members.

Observance of the Church’s 60th anniversary was a highlight of 2019 and raised $4,328. Fifteen new members joined during the year, bring the current membership to 209, a 2.5% gain. The average Sunday worship attendance was 83.
