Ways to help our newly arriving Afghan brothers and sisters.

Ways to help our newly arriving Afghan brothers and sisters.

I am sure you have heard the good news that Arizona will be resettling over 1,600 Afghans in the next 6 months. This is a very large number of people, and we are asking for your help.

Here are some ways you can help:

  1. Drive food on the weekend to one of the hotels that is hosting Afghans. Pick up the food in Scottsdale from a restaurant (they will place in your trunk), and drive the meal to the hotel in Chandler (85226) and the hotel staff will unload. Meals are at 8:00 am, 11:00 am and 4:30 pm. No need to even leave your car! This is being organized by The Arizona Muslim Alliance- Refugee Task Force (AMA-RTF).

  2. Visit Gathering Humanity and sign up to help with apartment setups that are happening 3-4 mornings a week. Set up an apartment with all the things one would need to set up a home. Gathering Humanity is also collecting items for the apartments- please look at their website to see what items are needed.

  3. Collect clothing for children (ONLY gently-used or new clothing). We will be handing out the bundles to newly arriving families. Please sign up via Sign-Up Genius.

  4. We are in desperate need of housing- if you or anyone you know has a guest house, condo, or home that you can rent to a newly arriving single person or family this would be amazing.
